Users Code of Conduct

User(s) are everyone who has access to any OntarioLearn resource. This includes both permanent and temporary employees (staff and facilitators) of the participating institutions, registered students, contractors, agencies, consultants, suppliers, customers, guests, and business partners.

Users are responsible for obeying Provincial and Federal laws/regulations plus Institution policies concerning the use of information technology services, facilities and equipment.

Any materials that may violate a person’s right to work and study in an environment free from discrimination and harassment regarding your race, ancestry, colour, place of origin, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, disability, age, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity/gender expression, and family or marital status are not to be stored, displayed, transmitted or otherwise linked to OntarioLearn/Institution courses, services, facilities and equipment.

Legislation and policies that affect the use of information technology services, facilities and equipment include, but are not limited to:

Ontario Human Rights Code · Criminal Code of Canada · Institutions’ Information Technology Acceptable Use Policies · Institutions’ Discrimination/Harassment Policies · Institutions’ Student Rights and Responsibilities Policies

A.  GENERAL RESTRICTIONS AND LIMITATIONS

Users may not:
1. enter without authorization, into equipment, facilities, networks or accounts to use, read, transfer or change the contents, or for any other purpose;

2. use another individual’s account or grant another individual access to their account;

3. interfere with the work of other students, facilitators, technical service provider, employees or institution officials;

4. engage in inappropriate messages/dialogue, including but not limited to, messages which are offensive, abusive, derogatory, seditious, harassing, bullying or threatening.

5. display, transmit, distribute or make available information that expresses or implies discrimination or harassment regarding your race, ancestry, colour, place of origin, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, disability, age, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity/gender expression, and family or marital status whether intentional or not;

6. interfere with the normal operation of institution or technical support provider information technology systems and connecting networks (this includes such things as flooding the network with messages or sending chain letters or pyramid solicitations);

7. use OntarioLearn or Institution computer facilities for profit or commercial gain;

8. create and/or use world-wide web information pages or links to point to offending materials that do not comply with the Ontario Human Rights Code or the Criminal Code of Canada unless doing so fulfills the requirements of the course;

9. use OntarioLearn or Institution computer facilities for any purpose that could be seen as a violation of the Criminal Code of Canada.

B.  RESPONSBILITIES

Users are responsible for:
1. any and all use of their accounts; therefore, users must maintain secure passwords for all accounts assigned to them, ensure and safeguard against others obtaining unauthorized access to their accounts, and must not share passwords or any other access control information for their accounts;

2. ensuring the confidentiality of any restricted data or information they have been granted access to; therefore, users must ensure a secure environment wherever they are logged on to their accounts, exercise discretion when printing confidential information, and may not copy, send, duplicate, or transmit by any means confidential data;

3. complying with all copyright and license conditions associated with OntarioLearn and Institution systems and content; therefore, users must not move, copy or transfer programs, files or other forms of software from one computing system to another without proper authorization to do so; must not distribute, sell or make available software to any person where prohibited by copyright or license; must not access and use software belonging to or owned by OntarioLearn or a Institution without proper authorization and license rights; will not submit work that is plagiarized or otherwise violates copyright laws of Canada.

4. reporting perceived infractions of the policy to either the course facilitator and/or the OntarioLearn Coordinator at your registering institution.

5. abiding by all rules and regulations published in course(s) and in this conduct policy and agree that you are subject to the jurisdiction of all disciplinary procedures established by your registering institution to address any alleged violations.
