Hospital Nursing Unit Clerk

Program Information

This certificate program prepares students for the challenging and rewarding career of providing clerical and administrative support for a hospital unit or health care institution. Students develop office management and business communications skills for the healthcare environment, and acquire a thorough understanding and ability to interpret and relay, information reporting, medical terminology, medical conditions, pharmacology, surgical procedures and medical tests. Students will also set up records for new patients, transcribe physicians’ orders from patient records, and prepare requisition forms for laboratory tests, therapy, drugs and supplies for their unit. They record patient diagnoses on the appropriate medical forms and arrange for the transfer of patients within the unit or to other units. The focus is on the development of strong office support skills with emphasis on interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.

Credentials College-Approved Certificate

Residency Students must complete a minimum number of credits in this program with their registering college to meet the Program Residency requirement to graduate from the program.

Completion All courses must be completed within five years of acceptance into the program.
