Fundamental Principles of Learning Disabilities (Recognition of Achievement)
Program Information
| The Fundamental Principles of Learning Disabilities Recognition of Achievement program provides students the foundation necessary to work with individuals with learning disabilities. Topics range from Ontario’s legal requirements of educators, the development of learning plans and how mental health impacts learning.
Individuals currently working in education will develop greater expertise in the multi-faceted area of learning disabilities, enhancing their career options in elementary, secondary and post-secondary institutions. Students who complete this new Recognition of Achievement (ROA) program in addition to the new Applied Learning Disability Strategies for Educators ROA program may obtain the Strategies and Assistive Technologies for Learning Disabilities Durham College Certificate. The first ROA, Fundamental Principles of Learning Disabilities, will provide students with a theoretical understanding of learning disabilities, concurrent disorders, and the legal obligations of educators. In the second ROA, Applied Learning Disability Strategies for Educators, the student will apply appropriate strategies and assistive technologies to a range of learner needs. Due to the advanced nature of the courses in this program, students with previous (or current) experience working in an educational setting will have greater success in the program. |
