Course Information

This course introduces the Practical Nursing Student to the currently accepted pharmacological principles to enable the safe and competent administration of medication in the clinical setting. It will focus on the application of the nursing process and provide the theoretical foundation for medication administration, which the student encounters in the clinical setting, skills lab, and other Practical Nursing courses. This course will also introduce the Canadian Drug Legislation governing prescription, over the counter, and natural health products and the related College of Nurses of Ontario Standards.

This course will explore pharmacokinetics and demonstrate its impact on related laboratory studies, as well as expected and therapeutic outcomes in clients with predictable, less complex conditions and a low risk of negative outcomes. All routes and forms of medication will be incorporated.
