Introduction to Public Safety Telecommunicator

Course Information

This foundational course introduces students to the structure and function of emergency services in Canada, including the hierarchy of command within police, fire, and emergency medical services. Students will explore the roles and responsibilities of sworn and civilian personnel and examine how public safety agencies collaborate to respond to emergencies. Emphasis is placed on understanding emerging technologies such as Next Generation (NG) 911 systems and mobile data communications, as well as the tools and systems that support effective coordination and response. The course prepares students to navigate the evolving landscape of public safety with a systems-based, technology-informed perspective.
