Introduction to Developmental Disabilities
Course Information
This course will examine the broad field of developmental disabilities through the lifespan. Learners will appraise what is meant by developmental disability as well as etiology, prevalence, and characteristics of various developmental disabilities including autism spectrum disorder and fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. Additionally, learners will examine the history of developmental disability policy in Ontario and current trends and issues including rights, entitlements, self-advocacy, and ethical considerations. Support and intervention practices as well as lifespan considerations such as mental health, employment and aging will also be reviewed.
