Intro to Assistive Technology
Course Information
In this course, students will learn about the different types of Assistive Technology (AT), and develop competency in their application with students with learning disabilities (LD). Students will also learn the process involved with the selection, installation, and use of Text-to-Speech (TTS) software and Speech Recognition (SR) software. Participants will apply the Planning for Success Self-Assessment Inventory to a volunteer student with a learning disability to determine the appropriateness of this intervention technique, and to become more proficient in training students with learning disabilities to use the equipment and technology suitable to their learning needs.

Computer Software Requirements:
Students will need access to a PC running Windows 7 or later or a Mac running OS X High Sierra and Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office is a free download available to all Ontario students.Students will also require access to the internet in order to acess courses and download and try a variety of applications.Access to a mobile device (phone or tablet running either Android or iOS) is an benefit in order to broaden their exposure to a variety platforms.
