Group Counselling Skills

Course Information

This course provides students with an overview of key concepts and principles of practice that are applied in therapeutic group work in the social service field. Students gain opportunity to experience group process both as a group member and facilitator. The experiential learning process will include a life skills coaching model combined with examining group stage-related themes such as preparing members, forming group norms, establishing member goals, addressing confidentiality and trust related issues, and working with strong emotions such as conflict. Feedback on student’s involvement in group process will be provided by the professor and through peer evaluations.
