Anti-Racism, Discrimination and Equity
Course Information
Students taking this course will gain an understanding of terminolgy related to marginalized groups in Canada. By identifying issues related to racism and other forms of discrimination in North American society, students will analyse the various levels of bias and prejudice present in our society while examining their positionality. The main objective of this course is to examine the levels of discrimination present in society in order to help students gain the experience and tools to challenge inequity in the schools and workforce. As part of the course, students will communicate with one another through discussion boards and through various readings and assignments they will gain an understanding of the many facets of racism and discrimination. This course will be of interest to workers in health services, education, human resources, and business as well as those people who want to enhance their knowledge about discrimination in Canada, including, but not limited to: heterosexism, androcentrism, Islamophobia, Anti-Semitism, ageism and classism.
